How do I move from dev to live site when the urls change?

I am creating a website for my client using Rapidweaver (using Joe Workman's PL stack), and would like them to write the text themselves using PageLime's cms. Since the site is still in development I have it publishing to a hidden dev location at, for example, www.mywebsite.com/hidden/about.php

What I don't quite understand is what will happen when we are ready to publish to the live location and I remove the /hidden folder and we are now publishing to www.mywebsite.com/about.php It seems that the pages are directly connected to a specific url, so when I move it, will I lose all the text the customer entered into Pagelime?

Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I would just move the contents of the hidden folder to your home directory and let it overwrite the existing content. Then change the url for pagelime to point to that directory.

Could you expand on this please? I have tried moving the contents from my test folder to a new location and the user content is lost.

I also tried pointing the site to a folder under different domain in which I had some weeks ago unsuccessfully tried to set the site up for development. Despite deleting the site entry from within Pagelime and removing the files on my server, when I uploaded the new content and amended the Pagelime settings the old files were still there from weeks ago and the user content gone.

Confused.

Do I have to leave it in my test area?

Yes - you basically need to update your site settings (advanced and basic tab) to point to the new URL, and make sure you move the "cms-assets" directory from the FTP of your dev site to your new production site.

Important: DO NOT CREATE A NEW SITE... change the settings of the existing site.

So... if a pagelime site has previously been created in the new location it (that location) cannot be used again, even if the previous site is deleted from the pagelime control panel?
