I would use your stylesheet for those changes. If you want to add the ability to create new styles for your menu, you need to specify the location of the CSS in your pagelime settings.
Hm, yes, but if I deliver the website to my client, together with Pagelime as cms, then I can´t tell him, that in the edit-field for a link there is the possibility to make the text of the link italic, but it´s not working correctly.
Also, my client is an absolute non-techie, so no chance he knows how to adapt stylesheets.
But anyway, in my personal opinion, I think, if you can make a text italic, since the button for doing this is there, then it should work like I would expect it to (no offense meant, if I say this just directly. I know, no software is without bugs, well, maybe in a later version of pagelime this will be fixed).
You can always create a style for use in the editor that is italic and whatever font you want...
