One of the (few) advantages of cushycms over Pagelime is that individual users can be restricted to editing only specified pages in a site. This is a really useful feature - are there any plans to add this to Pagelime?

There sure is! However, we're a bit more complex then Cushy, and we also like to try and make everything implemented as elegantly as possible. The way we are thinking now, would be to have a little "lock/unlock" icon next to each paged in the sitemap, when you mouse over it it will give you a list of currently active users on this site, and you can choose to lock them off pages. Default would be on.
How does this sound to everyone?

That sounds fine but it would be nice also to be able to open the sitemap from a link on the user permissions page.

You can always open the sitemap at anytime. There is a small rectangle on the left side of the interface. Click on that and it will open a drawer with the site map.

Oh yes, I see. I suppose what I was after was something that would clearly indicate that user's "view" of the sitemap, for editing purposes, but it would only be an issue if there were lots of users with different permissions on a fairly large site and that isn't likely for me.

Well the user, would only see the pages they have been granted. Your admin account would still see everything.

I know what you mean Tom, what I am saying is that whilst logged in as an admin and editing the permissions for a user it would be useful to see which pages that user had permission to edit. Don't worry, it's not a jobstopper!

Hey, is there any status update yet on this feature. Have a client that this is crucial for. Thanks! Love PageLime.

any more news on a timeline for this feature?
thanks

Hi Tom. Mark me down as another user who needs this feature. I hope it is coming soon! Thanks.

Hi guys, I have actually seen Emil cranking away on this. We don't have a firm date on it yet, but Mid-Fall seems likely. - Tom

How is Emil doing? Does he need some shoulder massage or new supply of microwave pizza.
Hehe, bumping the question.

LOL I'm generally overworked but this is still on the list. We need more developers :)
This piece is tricky cause it propagates all through our app, the API and the mobile iphone app... so... lotsa work :)

Emil, I just spoke with your supervisor.
He told me the iphone app can wait. Evidently these devices are not selling too well anyways...
He said this feature to restrict users are more important at the moment. He also told me there will be free Jolt Cola at the christmas party should this feature be up and running by then.
;-)

Emil has a supervisor now? When did we hire that guy. I hope he can code...

Haha, me too.

for the record, I'm on the train for desiring something like this. In addition, however, I'm wondering if this could also be taken one step further.
cms-editable1; cms-editable2; cms-editable3 - etc. Each gives permission levels. So, essentially, as the administrator I can set which pages a person can edit, but even more specifically, I can set their admin level on their profile.
Level 3 can only edit level 3 items.
Level 2 can edit level 2 & 3
Level 1 can edit level 1, 2, & 3.I'm sure there is a better way to do it. Just thinking that the site I'm working on now is for a nonprofit organization that wants to have a lot of volunteers able to update their respective aspects of the page. Although, sometimes folks get upset with the nonprofit and cause problems before leaving. Restricting their ability to edit even further would be tremendous.

Is there any news on this feature? I think the best way to implement it would be to have a list of every user you've enabled for editing (can group users into sub groups to make setting mass privileges easily). Then expandable lists of all the available websites with check boxes to allow editing of those sites, and finally expandable lists of all the pages again with check boxes. Think windows explorer side bar and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Must agree and Raise my hand in Vote on this feature
This would be a fantastic feature to have implemented.Posted 10 months ago # -
To be honest I think this feature is unnecessary and overkill. If you are dealing with clients that need multi level permission access, then you might want to look at another CMS. Don't have to use pagelime for everthing.
There are more important things for the pagelime team to focus on than stuff like this.

I have to disagree. If you look back to my original post I pointed out that this feature was in cushycms, and they don't come much more basic than that. Cushycms implements it in a very simple way and I was hopeful that Pagelime could do the same. The initial responses from Pagelime were favourable and there is clearly support for it, so please, don't let it drop.

I agree with kasg, I've got an 8 week deadline before a large project of mine goes live and I was hoping this feature would be made available in time for this. Otherwise I'll be forced to use cushy instead.

steve_o, this might be an unnecessary feature for you, but for others it is bordering on VITAL! I have 2 clients where having this feature would be soooo vital. Each client (a sailing club, and a church) has different people responsible for different content/pages. These organisations are staffed by volunteers, and while some are tech savvy, others will struggle with a system as user friendly as Pagelime. For me (and my client) to have enough control so that I can give a volunteer access to their area of content - and NOTHING else is really important - it will cut down on service calls to me, and it will keep the organisation's site in much better shape.
I have another prospective client that is a community radio station. For this group Pagelime is not an option - yet - due to the lack of this feature. For them, having "open access" for all volunteer broadcasters is simply not acceptable.
Sure, for many the ability to restrict users to pre defined areas is not a biggy - it is HUGE for me.
Tom, Emil, you've just pulled through the Amazon debacle with pride. While initially I questioned the security of Pagelime when the Amazon servers failed, I now have more confidence not only in the Pagelime system (hey my sites were still fine, and at a pinch could still edit via FTP), but was quite pleased with your response too.
Guys, can you PLEASE MAKE THIS A PRIORITY? Can you give us an ETA on when it will be ready? I really would love to do the community radio site with Pagelime, but ...............
PS. The iOS app is cool, handy etc. but for me it is not essential - but I did buy it. ;-)

Working on it now Pete - we've been through a few iterations on this. I didn't like any of them from a product perspective. I'll post on the blog about it sometime.
Should be out by late next week. I've got a trip to Chicago this week, and I'm handling this piece of coding myself.

Hi Emil,
That is AWESOME news! Late next week fits right in with my schedule on a new site, that has user specific pages as a "must have".
I can't wait!
Cheers
Pete

We just rolled this out. Enable the feature on the "site features". Let us know if you run into any bugs.

Thanks Emil - I was rather hoping this would be available in the free version (as it is with cushycms). Never mind ...

Tom, Emil, Thanks for putting this GREAT feature into place!
I've done some testing today and so far so good. The timing for this could not be better for me.Posted 8 months ago # -
Great stuff Tom and Emil! I've been waiting for this feature for a while now and I'm glad you focused on getting it done.
Would someone please put up a few screen caps to show how it works?
Cheers.Posted 8 months ago # -
Hey Kasg,
What's your account email. I can enable it for you in the free version if you're really too low on business to give us $19 a month ;)
